From AI to Tech, The Value Of Creative Constants - Whistling Woods International’s Vice President & CTO, Chaitanya Chinchlikar shares the secrets of the new age of Filmmaking
Short Summary
Chaitanya Chinchlikar explains that Whistling Woods International views AI as a workflow evolution rather than a creative replacement. By grounding students in the Natyashastra while maintaining tech-partnerships with giants like Sony and Google, the institute prepares a "tech-agnostic" generation of storytellers.
From Corporate Strategy to Creative Leadership
Chaitanya Chinchlikar’s path to becoming a leader in film education was unconventional. A commerce graduate with a background at Arthur Anderson (now Accenture), he brought a rigorous "business-first" mindset to the founding team of Whistling Woods International (WWI). Over the last 20 years, he has transitioned from managing operations and marketing to serving as Vice President, CTO and Head Of Emerging Media, ensuring the institute remains at the bleeding edge of the intersection between creativity and technology.
The Resilience of Indian Cinema Against Global Formulas
One of Chaitanya’s most striking insights is why Hollywood has struggled to capture more than 10% of the Indian market share. Unlike many global markets that adopted Western genre-specific formulas, Indian cinema is built on the Navarasa (nine emotions) and a unique five-act structure. This "confluence of emotions" creates a cultural moat that AI and Western three-act structures cannot easily replicate, making Indian content uniquely resilient.
Shaping National Policy for the Content Creator Economy
Chaitanya’s impact extends far beyond the WWI campus. As a key contributor to the Academy Awards Panel, National Education Policy (NEP) and a member of the government’s AVGC Task Force, he is helping scale creative education across India. His efforts include the recommendation to set up content creator labs in 15,000 schools and colleges, ensuring that "Lalit Kala" (creative arts) receives the same foundational dignity as science or maths in the Indian schooling system.
